Diversity and inclusion in employment and academia
Toward diversity and inclusion on campus and at the workplace
The aChord team on diversity and inclusion in employment and academia works to develop tools, training programs, and guidance for implementation by client organizations, drawing on the social psychology of intergroup relations in those two arenas: higher education and the workforce. We develop models and interventions utilizing research-based tools, diagnosis and metrics, offering a holistic and integrative conceptualization of inclusion and promoting diversity through deep change in emotions, consciousness, and behavior.
Our work in the area of employment is intended to influence both employers and job seekers, hence we work with partners who have broad influence in the field. We develop interventions and tools and train thousands of general and human resource managers in dozens of companies to help them implement diversity and inclusion in practice: locating, recruiting and absorbing workers from diverse groups and adopting inclusive management practices.
Academic campuses often provide the first opportunity for people from different groups to encounter one another intensively and for extended periods of time. Our efforts in this arena are designed to influence an institution’s policy makers, senior administrative staff, faculty and students. We seek to make a positive impact on relations between students from different groups on campus and thereby to influence future intergroup relations in the area of employment and in society at large.
